There is something about the freshness of a new year that’s just downright invigorating to me. Granted, there’s nothing extraordinarily different between the day of December 31st and the day of January 1st, but with the turn of the calendar comes forth a new batch of a dozen untainted months…blank slates, if you will. And I have a particular weakness for blank things. When I was little, I used to walk down stationery aisles and get excited over blank composition books and notebooks…and buy them “just in case” I ever felt like trying my hand at a novel. Or a three-act play. Or a manifesto.

Just kidding. ;)

Anyways…I’m excited to see what unfolds in 2008. There is a lot I hope to accomplish and much I hope to see come to pass, God willing. “There are many plans in a man’s heart, nevertheless, the Lord’s counsel – that will stand.” (Prov. 19:21) And while I am anxious to scribble all over my brand-new Van Gogh-themed calendar with important dates and notes, I am even more anxious to see what dates and notes He will be making…and what will stand a year from now.

For last year’s words belong to last year’s language
And next year’s words await another voice.
And to make an end is to make a beginning.

~T.S. Eliot, “Little Gidding”
